Plankton Issue

A red tide is a phenomenon brought on by algae blooms. These algae are phytoplankton that are single celled and live in clumps close to the surface. The red comes from photosynthetic acessory pigments used to help the photosynthetic process when the algae live in low light. These are harmful for the marine animals that live in the oceans because the algae steal the steal the oxygen out of the water due to the low life span and high rate of decompostition. The also block sunlight from reaching plants and algae blooms are also a sign of polluted water meaning something chemical is also going on.
