The Thresher in 1963 was a nucelar war sub created by the US for defense agains the soviets during the cold war. On April 9th of 1963 the Thresher sank in Corsair Canyon of the coast of Boston killing the crew of 129. The official reports suggest that the thresher due to inadequate maiteneance had a leak occur onboard the ship and as the cabin filled with water the sub sank until it passed the crush level and imploded from the force of the water on the ship. The remains of the Thresher were found by a bottom searching sub call Trieste.
The Scorpion in 1968
Leaving the Medditeranean sea in 1968 the scorpion is said to have accidentaly by a mechanical error shot a torpedo out of its ammunition holding cells. With the torpedo having no other locked target it locked itself of the Scorpion and the sub, by word of navy, was hit with its own torpedo.
With the Glomer exploration a russian sub carrying nuclear missles vanished on a path to the united states. Using the radio wires the US had installed the lake allowed them to triangulate where the sub had sank. The navy called upon the expertise of Howard Hughes to build an exploration ship that would have the ability to lift the russian sub out of the ocean. So that other countries didnt find out about the knowledge that the US possessed the nevy told the public they were going on a mission to collect minerals off of the ocean floor for financial gain. Once other countries found out about this information they started building their own ships to collect ground minerals providing the optimum cover. As the Glomer explorer went out to sea to collect the russian sub and they dropped the claw to pick it up it took 2 days for the football sized claw to reach the sub where it started the lift back to the hollow hiding hull of the boat. On the passage up the claw slipped off of the sub and caused a nuclear war head to sink slowly to the bottom. Their was no nuclear explosion.
As the warhead sank if i was on the Glomer i would have been so petrified waiting to see if the ship would be taken by a nuclear explosion.
